Setting up NCSA Printers for Windows
From MyWiki
Here is a list of the available NCSA printers: http://weg.ncsa.uiuc.edu/printer_support/windows_printer_shares.html
The above link claims that you can easily set up these printers using Windows print sharing. If that doesn't work for you, though, use the following setup process to access a printer directly:
- Walk around and locate the printer you want to use (e.g. "bw2010pub").
- Launch the Add Printer wizard from Windows Control Panel.
- Choose "Local printer attached to this computer" (do not autodetect).
- Choose to "Create a new port" of type "Standard TCP/IP Port".
- Enter the IP address of your chosen printer (refer to the printer list).
- Select the appropriate printer driver for your chosen printer.
- If you do not have an appropriate printer driver installed, download one from http://www.hp.com (choose the PostScript driver as opposed to the PCL driver). Extract the contents of the archive file to a temporary directory, then go back to the Add Printer wizard, click "Have Disk", and direct it to the .inf file you just extracted.
- Enter the name of your chosen printer, and choose whether to print a test page.
Note: these instructions were written for Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2.
