NCSA Room Reservations

Ordering Equipment

  1. Ideally get a quote. A set of item numbers will also work. Some common places to order from are:
  2. Send the list of equipment including part numbers to Patty Kobel (pkobel@ncsa.uiuc.edu), letting her know what account number to use (ask your manager if you don't know). Large orders have to go through the Business Office, which can take several days or weeks, but Patty has a credit card that she can use for smaller online or phone orders.
  3. If it is less than $250 you can just go buy it from a local store and get reimbursed. Make sure you have permission from your manager or the PI on the account first.

NCSA Email

Illinois Email

In addition to your NCSA email account, all NCSA staff also get a University of Illinois email account, i.e. a "user@illinois.edu" address. The University will send you important email at this address and you should forward this email to an account you read. (I actually don't know where this email goes if you don't forward it somewhere.)

To forward the email, set the email field in your campus directory entry using the Electronic Directory Editor.

You can certainly forward it to your NCSA account (i.e. by setting the email field to your NCSA email address).

Another option is to forward it to your CITES Express account. (Prior to Zimbra a number of people did this because CITES Express had IMAP support, now it's of less obvious benefit.)

Teleconferencing Options

Getting a phone conference reset

  • With UIUC's teleconference system, if the first caller hangs up before someone else joins, the conference breaks with subsequent callers getting a fast-busy signal.
  • To get it reset call the UIUC Conference operator at 217-333-0133.

Outgoing Postal Mail

After May 14, 2007, weight, size and width will all be factors in determining the cost of postage. Complete details can be found at http://www.usps.com/ratecase/.

  • Outgoing mail that requires postage will still be placed in the outgoing mail bin in the NCSA mailroom. A contact person's name will need to be written in the return address area on all outgoing U.S. mail. Mail without a contact name will not be processed. An account number must be submitted for all items larger than letter size and with large mailings (more than 10 items). Shipping and Receiving will then process the mail and attach the correct "pick up" slip (provided by campus mail) and then placed in the outgoing campus mail.
  • Campus mail carriers will pick up NCSA's outgoing U.S. mail when they deliver and pick up our campus mail. This usually takes place between 10 and 11 a.m. Any mail placed in the bin after 11 a.m. will go out the following day.

We will no longer accommodate outgoing personal mail. There is a U.S. Mail drop box in the circle drive of Beckman.
